Dear Momma, You Aren't Stuck
Dear Momma, You Aren’t Stuck
As a teenager the allure of danger was too strong for this boy crazy girl. Adventure was strongly ingrained in me by my dad, so when my guy friends called and said, “hey, let’s use your jeep to go mudding,” my weak heart couldn’t say no. Of course there were my mom’s sensible alarm bells ringing in my head, but somewhere along the teenage path I learned to tune those out.
We took my non 4x4 jeep to a field ripe with fresh soaked rain and held on tight. With every quick turn of the wheel we were all shouting with delight. As the wheels spun, my inclination of disaster rolled away. I’m sure you can tell where this story ended, how our fun was cut abruptly short - we got stuck. Not just a let the boys give it a good ol’ push and we’re free stuck, it was an uh-oh we are going to have to call our parents for rescuing stuck. I’ll save the comical details of that for another post.
In that moment it felt impossible to get free. We were stuck, and the more we tried on our own the more the weight of our situation dug us further into the mire. I don’t know what situation you are facing today that has you stuck, desperate for rescuing. What I do know is I’ve been there.
The mud is flying around caking every part of you until you can’t see the hope that is promised to you.
Recently one of our pastors told us his testimony of suicidal thoughts as young man. I was immediately taken back to my own struggles with the very same thing. As the worship team played, the words of the song filled my heart, “kneeling on this battle ground, seeing just how much You’ve done...Never once did we ever walk alone. Never once did you leave us on our own.” All the moments God saved me flashed before my eyes like a montage of His faithfulness, of His victories, of His progress in my life.
The moment He held the wheel tight when death felt more urgent than life.
The moment He shielded me from ruin when I chose lust over purity.
The moment He protected me from destruction when my drunken pride made me feel invincible.
The moment He rescued me from the boys who thought loving me was through emotional abuse.
The moment when He healed Haddie when her health was fragile.
The moment He fought alongside my husband and I through marriage battles.
The moments He pursued me in the deepest depths of depression.
The moments He loved me when I felt like I was completely failing as a mom.
I have intimately known the rescuing love of our Father. I have faced down the giants mud pits of my life and seen His hand reaching down to save me. The hope is near, because God promises to be near. I stand on the other side of this screen to declare to you that victory is yours. Stop spinning your wheels trying to free yourself from the situation you feel stuck in and look up. Look for God. And don’t stop looking for Him. Cling to His faithfulness. Never give up hope. If you feel impossibly stuck today, I am praying for His victory in your life today.
God, thank you for being our Rescuer. Your victory on the battle ground’s of my life are a testimony to faithfulness. I pray for the person reading this today that feels stuck. God, remind them in a real way that You see them. You see their pain and you tell us that You wipe our tears and rescue the brokenhearted. Sometimes Your timing is hard to endure, but I ask that You give them hope today. A hope for victory in the middle of this mud. We love you Lord, it’s in Your powerful name we pray. Amen.
Sweet momma, if you’re still feeling stuck, you can turn your battleground over to God.
